The Business Superpower You May Not Know You Have

Intuition is back. It’s powerful, necessary, and is being heavily used by the most successful business leaders.  Ignore it, or be intimidated by it, at your own risk.

In the Beginning, Decisions Were Largely Made by Using One’s Intuition. Think of a world where the only data you could access is that which you perceived through your tongue, ears, skin, nose, and eyes. Given data was so limited, you simply had to rely on intuition.

Over the Last Couple Centuries, Data Became More Available and, Hence, More Relied Upon. With technology, childhood conditioning, social conditioning, “fact addiction,” and the birth and growth of mega-sized organizations, we became incredibly reliant upon data for making our decisions.

More Recently, Intuition has Risen Again. Now, data has simply overwhelmed us. We have no choice but to fall back on our intuition amidst this lightning-fast, hyper-complex, often AI-driven world in which we live.

Seek Intuitive Cues. Whether these cues are clairsentient (feeling something in your body), clairvoyant (seeing an image in your mind’s eye), clairaudient (hearing something in your head), or just plain knowing, learn how you get your cues and practice relying upon them.

Know Where to Rely Upon Intuition the Most:

·      When relevant facts are scarce or conflicting

·      When you just can’t decide among alternatives

·      When you are under time pressure

·      When you are dealing with human issues, such as hiring, firing, staffing, and partnering

Know That Intuition Must Be Fed. Data cannot be ignored. Reasonably available data must be accessed to “feed” your intuition. The best leaders I know have voracious appetites for information.
